      <image:title>Project - Her Prairie</image:title>
<image:caption>“America’s unique province is her prairie…” -William A. Quayle, The Prairie and the Sea (1905) Filmed in my own home county in rural Eastern Kansas, HER PRAIRIE is a documentary short film about the native tallgrass prairie remnants of Miami County, KS and the women landowners/stewards who are working to protect and conserve this endangered ecosystem. This land (all land) is both home and habitat; a narrative of balance, interdependence, and co-existence. These remnants root us in not only the layers of our history, but in our personal identity and connection to place, thus holding our pasts, our peoples, and our hopes for the future seeded in this fertile yet disappearing soil. Working in concert with the Miami County Conservation District, introduction and access and is granted to both people and prairies. The film centers the stories of prairie landowners Jane Booth, Sara Cornett, Marsha Hale (and sisters), and Shirley Oyster who will be interviewed and offer an array of histories, and perspectives on this unique prairie, and their role in its conservation. The interviews will focus on several aspects of the native prairie, including (but not limited to): personal history, generational ownership, land management, preservation, propagation by seed collection and restoration, controlled burns, and more, Using both drones and camera on terra firma, this film strikes a compelling balance offering sweeping panoramic views as well as intimate interviews with these prairie women, and the magnified images of the lush and diverse wildflowers and grassland dependent wildlife species. HER PRAIRIE explores the personal connection to this land, amplifies the call for conservation, and offers an allegory for Mother Nature as prairie-in seed, soil, and flower.</image:caption>
